Shotgun Rules
- Anyone under the age of 18 must be supervised by an adult.
- Eye and ear protection is always required. Bystanders observing the shooters must also wear eye and ear protection.
- All guns must be unloaded, and actions kept open until you are in the shooting box, and it is your turn to shoot.
- For Skeet, 5-Stand and Sporting Clays only 2 rounds maximum in the gun at any time, even if your gun holds more. For Trap only one round in the gun at any time, unless you are shooting Doubles Trap or a similar game, then only two rounds maximum.
- Only one shell may be loaded on Station 8 skeet, and the barrel may not go past 90 degrees.
- When loading or unloading muzzles must be pointed down range. For 5-Stand and Sporting Clays the muzzle must be pointed down range and over the front rail of the shooting stand—not sideways or up in the air.
- When moving from station to station all actions must be open and gun unloaded. Pump action and semi autos must have the action open and visible away from your body to make it visible to other shooters. Break open, SxS or over/under, must be broken open and preferably carried over the shoulder with the barrel to the front of your body, pointing down, and butt stock to the rear.
- Shot sizes are limited to 7 1/2, 8 and 9 only.
- Only lead shot allowed on the patterning board to prevent damage to the patterning board plate and persons. NO STEEL OR HARDENED SHOT i.e., TUNGSTEN Etc.–EVER!
- If a shell fails to fire, wait at least 30 seconds before opening the action in case of a hang fire.
- If a shell has a “funny” sound or the shell had no powder and only the primer fires, drop the wad removal rod down the barrels and visually inspect to make sure there is nothing in the barrels.
- If the muzzle should get dropped to the ground or in the snow, clear the barrels of all debris and visually inspect before firing to prevent damage to equipment and injury to yourself and bystanders from a ruptured barrel.
- Do not allow ejected shells from a break barrel gun fly, stop them with your hand and deposit them into the provided trash container. Also, pick up any spent hulls from all guns, including pumps and semi autos and deposit them into the trash.
- Be considerate to others, keep your squad moving to free up fields and stations.
Club pullers are also safety personnel, they have final say if unsafe actions are observed.
